GRIHA
What is GRIHA ?
GRIHA, which stands for Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment, is India’s national rating system designed to evaluate and certify the environmental performance of buildings. Its primary goal is to minimize a building’s resource consumption, waste generation, and overall ecological impact throughout its life cycle. Administered by the GRIHA Council and endorsed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the system assesses projects on a 100-point scale across criteria such as energy efficiency, water management, and the use of sustainable materials, ultimately awarding a star rating from one to five. A key component of this framework is the Product Catalogue, a platform where manufacturers can register their certified green products and builders can find pre-approved, eco-friendly materials for their projects, with empanelled consultants available to assist in the process. Achieving GRIHA certification provides numerous benefits, including significant environmental conservation, reduced operational costs for owners, improved health and well-being for occupants, and enhanced market value for the property.
Benefits of GRIHA
- Environmental: Saves energy and water, reduces carbon emissions, and minimizes landfill waste.
- Economic: Lowers electricity and water bills, provides government incentives (like tax rebates), and increases property value.
- Social and Health: Creates healthier indoor spaces with better air quality, boosts occupant well-being and productivity.
