What is ISO 50001:2018 - EnMS?
ISO 50001 is a company-level certification based on a standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The specification requires the use of an Energy Management System with the main purpose of using Energy more efficiently. The standard is based on a management system model of continual improvement, similar to some other common ISO standards.
The certification calls for a company to develop an energy policy, establish goals to meet the policy, utilize data to meet goals, measure policy effectiveness, and continually make improvements to the policy.

FAQ
Like other ISO management system standards, certification to ISO 50001 is possible but not obligatory. Some organizations decide to implement the standard solely for the benefits it provides. Others decide to get certified to it, to show external parties they have implemented an energy management system.
More than a tick in the ESOS box, the standard is scalable to any organization because it is based on the principle of continual improvement and built on the classic four-step cycle made famous by Deming: Plan, Do, Check, Act.
The standard aims to help organizations continually reduce their energy use, and therefore their energy costs and their greenhouse gas emissions. ISO 50001 was originally released by ISO in June 2011 and is suitable for any organization, whatever its size, sector or geographical location.
